The Art of Website Design

Research

This involves gathering information about your related industry, brand, customer base, etc… This stage is continuously expanding beyond the launch of your website, as new information may be added in time.

Qualifying

The information gathered during the research stage needs to be digested and organized. Clarification on details may be needed. Qualifying the information first is key. Adding that right information and not just filling white-space is very important. The material has to make sense. This is a continuum throughout the design process and beyond.

Demo

For you and us this is an exciting time. You get to see your brand come to life and we get to showcase a little of our work. This stage is designed for your input and changes will be made based on your critique. Only work you have approved moves forward.

Approval

Never approve what you’re not happy with. We are the experts, but you know your brand better than anyone. It may not be uncommon for you to request many changes to the website prior to your final approval. Once approved, we finalize the technical details.

Complete

This stage is when you and our team are satisfied that your brand is being represented in its best light and it’s ready for the world to see. When everything is approved and we have finalize the details and a launch date is set. At this stage we also make sure that your website is submitted to all of the search engines.

Launch

Always remember, changes can and often do need to be done while the site is live. This is easily done with little or no down-time. Once live, your site will continue to evolve. A website is never truly complete and will always need support to continue to evolve.

Design Tips

It looks cool and does draw some attention to your the area of intended focus. The biggest issue with “flashy” animation is that it causes website load-times to take longer than your competitors and this can cause issues in search result rankings. Flashy animation can need a lot of JavaScript and CSS and this will impact website loading time. Combining the right colors, images, and layouts, makes a website load fast and attracts the visitor’s attention where it is intended.

Well, that didn’t go as planned. We all know that spending time on a site searching for what you want can be challenging. Putting links, menus, buttons, text, images, etc., that lead to a dead-end is one of the number one reasons visitors leave a website feeling frustrated. A well thought-out website architecture will help to give your visitors a positive experience when navigating your site. They will always have an easy way to get to where they need to be with only one or two clicks.

Never give in to making your website complicated. This is hard not to do when you have a lot to offer. But keeping the options to a minimum pays in ROI. When you have a lot to offer, be direct. This is where a well thought-out website architecture is key. Complicated websites make for frustrated visitors. You know the rest. We like to keep it simple but interesting, useful, fast, and secure.
